Class Compendium [Basic PvP Starter Guide for Classes/Specs]

#1 by highstring1 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 10:08 pm

I felt like I should help bring some insight for those who rather get a better look at classes they have not played and want a new taste of something.

No part of this guide is meant to make you "OMFG SO PRO I OWN YOU LOLOL" but just aid in the understanding of the classes.

All of these specs are designed for the ideas of BGs, NOT arenas.
This is NOT a tactics guide but instead a preparation guide. for most parts.

Basic Appendixx
Soft cap = A cap that is reached with help via trinket / proc
Hard cap = A cap reached by gems / enchants / talents alone
CCed = Crowd Controlled (Polymorph, Cyclone, Blind, Sap)
Peeling = Relieving your healer from being interrupted/damaged (help your healing buddy out)
Nuke(s) = An ability / spell that is used most often to accomplish the damage of your spec
HoT/Dot = Healing over Time / Damage over Time
ArP = Armor penetration
AP = Attack power
Str = Strength
Agi = Agility

1 - Druids
Druids are a versatile class, able to fulfill caster dps, melee dps, or healing. They are able to easily escape root effects as well as Polymorph.

----- Feral -----
Feral provides rogue-like dps but with the flexibility of small healing and easy root escapes.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?druid#- ... -ROH,12213
A almost-set-in-stone spec where you can lose 2 points of Infected Wounds for Primal Tenacity.

Small Strategy - Most feral cats tend to Mangle spam, which does satisfactory damage, but more damage can be pulled if a proper combination ( pounce -> Mangle -> Rake -> Shred (must be behind target) -> either Rip or Ferocious Bite depending on target's health status -> Healing Touch, Regrowth, Entangling Roots, or Cyclone (if and ONLY IF Predator's Swiftness is up after using a finisher move) depending on your (or your ally's) health or if enemy NEEDS to be CCed immediately) is used. Mangle spam is easier but using this to perfection creates a better Feral druid player.

---- Balance ----- A caster dps version for the Druid. Varies between using Arcane and Nature damage.
spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?druid#1wN7Zz9C9i-Cz,UkSROH,12213
A flexible spec with 4 points to place where you like:
Celestial Focus - 3% more haste
Moonglow - 3% mana reduction for each point for most of your spells
Dreamstate - Increased mana regen based on Intellect for longer fights
Improved Insect Swarm - A basic 3% damage increase for Wrath and Starfall as long you keep debuffs up

Eclipse - Balance druids have a talent called Eclipse, which dramaticly increases the damage on one of our nukes due to the usage of the other. (Wrath causes the Eclipse buff for Starfire and vice versa) An easy way to manage this buff is to find a 3.3.5 version of PowerAuras Classic. (Explained later on in the AddOns section.)

----- Restoration -----
The healing talent tree, Restoration uses HoT spells to heal themselves and others.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?druid#QBlPlZZL8IOcK,-XpROH,12213
Not set in stone with 5 points for variation:
Tranquil Spirit - 2% less mana spent for main healing spells that are not instant
Living Spirit - 5% more Spirit every point
Improved Barkskin - More armor when out of Tree from, grants Barkskin dispel resistance
Living Seed - Chance on non-periodic heal crit to also heal 30% more when they take damage

Restoration druids are one-of-a-kind; their healing is almost entirely based on HoTs. This is a gift and a curse, as you can give an ally many HoTs, but each HoT is susceptible to be Spellstolen or dispelled.

2 - Warriors
Warriors have a simple task that all specs can do on some levels and this task only damage dealing. Warriors can range from armor-clad juggernauts to vicious dual-wielding berserkers.

----- Arms -----
Arms warriors use a single two-handed weapon with skill in order to destroy their enemies. Arms is a tricky spec to delve into as there are many choices in talents corresponding to their weapon and gear. Arms Warriors use Battle Stance as their main stance.

(Spec edited by Whetherey)
Mace spec with Fury (ArP build) - [url]http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warrior#dhJLHjInBeJ00U,qM83Rq,12213
[/url]

Most Arms Warriors go for a full ArP build. (full armor penetration, sacrificing the Warrior's highest damage potential to destroy plate-wearers as easily as cloth-wearers) The points from Mace Specialization can be moved into other weapon specializations if one does not want to go for ArP. This same spec can also go with a Prot as an offbranch for more survival/burst in arenas or 1v1 situations.

Axe/Polearm spec with prot offspec
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warrior#9gnSL-31vKdnk,qM83Rq,12213
The biggest difference between this spec and the other is change of Fury talents to Protection. This switch ensures more survivability with Last Stand and a huge burst time with switching to a one-hand and shield, switching to Defensive stance, Shield Block, and spamming Revenge (the reason this burst is possible is because of Unrelenting Assault reducing Revenge cooldown to the GCD cap (one second))

----- Fury -----
You are a bloodthirsty berserker, equipped with two massive weapons, seeking to leave nothing of your enemies except a huge mess of meat. Fury Warriors use Berserker Stance to wreak the most havoc.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warrior#wMFinJHD7Ls8B,39F3Rq,12213
There is a little softness in this spec such as you can opt to remove the points in Precision if you are overloaded on hit and can place them in Improved Berserker Rage for better rage generation.

Fury seems lackluster and has poor survivability due to Berserker Stance but Fury has one of the best cleaving melee damage abilities...so good that Bladestorm stole the ability and copied it 6 times - Whirlwind. This ability can hit up to four targets with BOTH weapons, allowing you to achieve full damage by being in the middle of a crowd. Do not be afraid to get up close and personal; it is where you shine the most.

----- Protection -----
Weighed down with extremely powerful armor and equipped with a sturdy shield, you are The Imoveable Object to The Unstopable Force.

Prot spec with Fury -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warrior#S2h7XgDkOrqp,RYt3Rq,12213
Standard Protection spec with the four points in Deflection able to be moved into other talents you feel like you may need.

Prot spec with Arms -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warrior#wfmr35JBie3eo,RYt3Rq,12213
Same spec as above but moved Fury points into Arms for more crit damage and reduced stun duration.

Protection is not the highest damage dealer of the talent trees but Protection Warriors are absolutely the best of all three as an anti-caster spec. Prot has two abilities that can silence (Heroic Throw and Shield Bash) and two abilities to stun (Concussion Blow and Shockwave). To top these abilities off, the Warrior will be able to reflect any direct spell back to the caster.

3 - Warlocks
Using the powers of shadow and fire, Warlocks are exceptional spell damage dealers. Their talent variety varies from a specialization in fire to a specialization in minions.

----- Destruction -----
A personal favorite due to the amount of insane burst damage, Destruction Warlocks focus on the destructive nature of fire to incinerate their foes.

Destro Lock + Nether Protection http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock#f3Ji6A0j5QsPj,wq8O,12213
An anti-caster build. Very flexible spec, points can also be taken from Demonic Aegis to put into Suppression for more hit, points can be put into Pyroclasm or Soul Leech.

By Whetherey
Destro Lock + Soul Leech/Suppression http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock#80n4UthrSrlXo,-q8O,12213
Uses Soul Leech, common Demo talents, and Suppression all together for sacrifice of Nether Protection.
You can switch either Shadowflame or Chaos Bolt glyph for Immolate for higher Conflagrate burst.

By Impazz
Destro Lock + Soul Leech/Nether Protection/deep Demo http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock#fuYGwmL60jO5o,-qyqOe,12213
Soul Leech, Nether Protection and deep demo talents in sacrifice of Pyroclasm and Suppression. You can switch either Shadowflame or Chaos Bolt glyphs for Immolate for higher Conflagrate damage.

While criticized for its insane amount of damage, Destruction is amazing as a burst damage spec and hows the lowest reliability on demons.

Best demon choices: Felhunter (anti-caster), Voidwalker (Sacrifice)

----- Affliction -----
Standing on a field of decay, your presence rots those who near you. Your mastery of shadow has granted you the gift of decaying many people at once at the cost of dealing high instant damage.

By Impazz
Afflict Lock+deep Demo http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock#tOjZIVCfgGcP2,bJrqO-,12213

impazz wrote:This tree has various specs. Need extra haste, go 3/3 Eradication. Subspec is explained above ( destruction ). Shadow Embrace, you can 3/5 or 4/5, i choose 5/5 so i get the maximum healing reduced. Epic in BG's and Arena. Curse of elements on targets, if they're coming for you, curse of exhaustion. Death's embrace faceroll obviously. Target is low on HP, pop drain soul and see your hits!:O Extra range isn't needed, Dot's are like 1.5 sec or lower. Doesn't apply for shadowbolt. Stack haste and SP and you'll be Nr1 in no time. Glyphs can be switched of course; Corruption, Howl of Terror, Shadowflame or others.

By Whetherey
Afflict Lock + More range http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock#teBYaBy6gcO3,dNMO,12213
Sacrifices Imp. Howl of Terror for Shadow Embrace for longer fights.

Affliction depends heavily on their Felhunter as their pet in their damage. The Voidwalker in only a choice when survivability is preferable to damage.

----- Demonology -----
Sighing as you are Cheap Shotted, the Rogue gets a rude awakening to the Seduction from your Succubus who was hidden away. To his surprise, you summon a Felguard out of nowhere, enter a demonic metamorphosis and grant him a painful realization as who will win this fight.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock#83JZAIkJA-EU,Qa8O,12213
Flexible as usual, Demonic Aegis can be sacrificed to go deeper into Destruction and Suppression from Affliction can go into Destruction when you have enough hit from gear.

Demonology Warlocks are usually underplayed due to a reason; their burst damage and sustained damage in low and their main damage comes from their pet. HOWEVER, due to the talent Decimation, Demonology Warlocks have an even higher burst window then Destruction with the cast time of Soul Fire reduced significantly when an enemy is weakened enough.

Demonology has no choice of a pet besides Felguard as the Felguard deals the most compared to others.

4 - Rogues
***NOTE*** I am nowhere NEAR of being a novice on fighting with a Rogue due to inexperience. From here on, this part of the guide is a guideline ONLY. Advice from Rogue professionals would be greatly appreciated. ***NOTE***

Rogues are the ninjas of WoW, able to kill quickly and discreetly. Their huge offensive skills is countered with weak defensibility. Rogues have three offensive ways to kill their target; with poison mastery, quick and strong blows, or extremely hard hitting openers and closing the opponent down. Rogues are masters of controlling the enemy with their CC.

----- Assassination -----
A noxious fume seeps from your pack as you sneak behind enemy lines. Locating the enemy flag carrier, you plan to bestow the carrier the vile kiss of your poisons for the price of his life.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?rogue#3XwcMRtwy6GPmE,QXY-Oe,12213
Unlike other pure specs, Assassination rogues usually do no go for their 51 point talent as it, quite frankly, sucks bollucks. There are a few points you can trade from Sub to Assa or reposition in Sub (Heightened Senses -> Murder or Heightened Senses -> Setup or Serrated Blades) but most of the talents are best where they are.

Weapon speeds should be slow daggers (1.8) for max Mutilate damage and optimal poison setup is either Main - Instant and Off - Deadly unless there is a healer, then use Main - Wound and Off - Deadly.

----- Combat -----
Disregarding your stealthiness, you like to take on enemies mano e mano, showing that you can, and will, overpower them with your speed quickly.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?rogue#3unmysFsKi74D,J-b-Oe,12213
Combat, similar to Arms, has weapon specializations. The points from Close Quarters Combat can be moved to a different specializations as necessary (use points from Dirty Tricks and Camouflage and put into Improved Gouge to go further if need be) and is recommended to for slower weapons.

Weapons can be slow/slow (2.8) for max Killing Spree damage or slow/fast (2.8/??) for offhand poison application. Poisons should be both Instant (or Instant/Mind Numbing if facing an enemy caster) unless involving a healer, then use Instant/Wound or Mind Numbing/Wound, to your preferences.

----- Subtlety -----
You are one with the darkness. Your movement is unseen and quick, almost-instant death is your weapon. Striking from the darkness is your tactic. None are safe from you.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?rogue#KXwlJXVeRh99,qtr-Oe,12213
Subtlety is all about hard hitting openers and killing as quick as possible, something the other trees cannot compete at. Subtlety's weakness, however, is sustained damage; after their burst, they must either run and hide and wait for stealth, or hope they can finish their enemy before the enemy finished them.

Subtlety demands a dagger in main hand, which should be slow (1.8). The offhand should be slow for poison application. Poisons should be both Instant (or Instant/Mind Numbing if facing an enemy caster) unless involving a healer, then use Instant/Wound or Mind Numbing/Wound, to your preferences.

5 - Death Knights
Defectors from the Lich King's army, these malevolent knights said disease death with their presence. Strong, self-healing strikes, swift ,obliterating strikes, and plague-infected strikes are the tools of a Death Knight to wrought destruction onto his/her targets.

----- Blood -----
Your control over blood grants you amazing survivability with moderate damage dealing. This power grants that you will not go down so easily or quickly.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deathknight#BJamQibjdu1Oi,tU9O3R,12213
Blood is the survival spec of Death Knights; their self-healing is more significant then the other specs and any other healing used on them is increased.

----- Frost -----
The icy chill in the air is under your command. You blast your enemies with blasts of freezing air and when the time is right, you freeze any in your presence, leaving them vulnerable to your vicious intent.

Frost spec (Obliterate max) -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deathknight#_7z3b23mZK9YV,wkaO3R,12213
Maximizes amount of Obliterates and their damage.

(Created by Impazz)
Frost spec (Pest. glyph + increased runic power generation) -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deathknight#BLl2VS7w-M3jfY,ISkOe3,12213

Uses Pestilence glyph to keep diseases up instead of reapplying them for more damage output. Increased RP generation with Scent of Blood.

Frost is the dual-wielding spec for the Death Knight. Guaranteed critical hits are one of the main pros to this spec, as well as control over the enemy.

Weapons should be both slow (2.8) is maximize Obliterate damage.

----- Unholy -----
The ground begins to wither under your footsteps. Shuffling behind you is the remains of the last poor fool who decided to take an attempt on your life, serving you willingly in his undeath. You seek to spread your gift of disease and undeath to the enemy, showing them the true might of Death itself.

(Edited by Whetherey)
Unholy with Frost (Annihilation) ->http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deathknight#fjm_59AS8Pc2Sx,HF6O3R,12213
Offbuild in Frost to increase disease damage, Scourge Strike damage, Death Coil damage, and obtain fear immunity.

Whetherey wrote:Frost UH for Bgs

(Edited by Whetherey)
Unholy with Blood -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deathknight#ByjWlENGqwXpNs,wkaO3R,12213
Offbuild in Blood to increase healing and strike damage.

(Edited by Impazz)
Unholy with Frost (Icy Talons + Corpse Explosion) -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deathknight#flc-7WqCQRHZDz,HSFOeR,12213

Impazz wrote:This is an epic spec, depends on playstyle. Go blood subspec if you want some heals, if not, this is the shit. Pro AoE 3/3 wandering plague + pestillence + D&D, you'll top BG's simply by that. 3/3 reaping explained at frost spec, now you'll do scourge. Ghoul facerolls + corpse if it works here. You can get Anti-magic-zone, i don't like it. Waste of rune. Bone shield another useless rune. 3% extra damage? This buff get's wiped in PvP faster than you can say: Umad? Endless winter, speaks for itself. On a pale horse, i didn't get it, don't find it very useful. Death coil, don't save it whenever you have enough use it. Pestillence refreshes everything, so yea you know. Deathstrike if you're low on HP 1v1. I don't think i need to explain something about the glyphs.

A situational build with Corpse Exp. and faster auto-attacks (higher Blood Caked Blade procs).

Whetherey wrote:Blood UH build only used by those who roll with 2 dps arena team

6 - Paladins
You are more then a simple Priest or Warrior. You have transcended both aspects to become a vessel of holy might. Where you go, the power of the Holy Light goes with you.
Paladins are versatile with a high damage spec, reduced damage for high survivability spec, and a healing spec.

----- Retribution -----
Your cause is righteous. Those against you defy your beliefs and will soon feel the power of the Light as you judge those in your way. Vengeance is beneath you as you are now a hand of the Light.

spec-> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?paladin#99SITPOOJKIul,dya-3e,12213 (Thanks to dido9210 for his professional help with spec and talent explanation!)

By diDo9210
Needed talents from prot and holy tree
Seals of the pure is 100% needed cuz seal of command is crap in 3.3.5 and u have to use seal of righteausness
2 points on Healing Light is good option cuz u have instant flash of light and this improuve your survivality (this is rly good against hight mele dps like war or dk )
Guardian's Favor is rly greet talent cuz reduce cd and increase duration of one of the best palla spells( hands of freedom remouve stuns, make u imune to slow effects and imune all frost dmg from frost mages cuz they slow u)
Stoicism- u will not can remouve stuns all the times and that's reduce 1/3 of stun time , rly good for arena
Improuved Righteous Fury- reduce 6% of all dmg taken- improuve your survivality

Don't needed talents from retri tree
Deflection- u never need it for pvp
Seal of Command- broken seal for pvp at 3.3.5
Vindication- 46ap is nothing at wotlk
Eye for an Eye- i rly loved this talent in TBC then it returned 50% of critted spell dmg , now dmg returned is to small
Swift Retribution- all pally attack spells are with instant cast , and this don't reduce the cooldown of spells so it's makes fasters your white dmg, so u can skip it
Fanaticism- it's good but i put only 1 points there cuz i need other 2 for improuve my survivality

Major glyphs
Glyph of Exorcism- improuve dmg from exorcism with 20% and u can use instant exorcism so it's good
Glyph of Judgement- in TBC judge was doing to small dmg, but here in 3.3.5 at wotlk they do rly good dmg so 10% more is always good for us
Glyph of Seal of Righteousness- increase the dmg from this seal- dmg from crusader strike, divine storm when used this seal, dmg for judge when used this seal

Ret Pallys have slower dmg from others melle chars so all ur glyphs must increase your dmg

Ret Pally with Seal of Command +Support talentshttp://talent.mmo-champion.com/?paladin#f8YCI_7Lw3hz7,dYa-3e,12213
By Whetherey
A Pally spec that sacrifices talents that increases damage to help defend friends instead.

You have the option of taking points from Righteous Vengeance to pick up Swift Retribution if you wish to fill a bigger support role.

Retribution takes some time to master before you can faceroll away. Learn to Cleanse debuffs/magic slows on yourself and get in the habit of using Hand of Freedom to remove stuns instead of your trinket/racial.

Your seal should be Seal of the Righteous and your Judgement should Judgement of Justice (or Seal of Command if using the spec.)

----- Protection -----
Heathens gather their resources and prepare to assault your land soon. Symbolizing what you fight for, you are a unyielding guardian of the Light. Being a stalwart defender grants you amazing survivability for your sacrifice of damage.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?paladin#-xQDK-eMks11,YaU-3e,12213
Already explained, Protection is hard to take down and is as much an anti-caster as anti-melee. Avenging Shield (a.k.a Chain Shield) does moderate damage and provides a nice silence to, at maximum, three casters. (providing your shield is smart and goes for casters)

Your seal is Seal of Vengeance/Corruption and Judgement is Judgement of Justice.

----- Holy -----
As a bringer of the Light, you devote yourself to its studies and master its true form. Upon the battlefield, you use the Light's power to heal the wounds of your allies and exorcise the heathens you fight.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?paladin#ilkRwCW0WuftM,68Y-3e,12213
You can opt to take a point from Improved Devotion Aura and put into Beacon of Light if you cannot live without it. The main reason it is not in the spec is due to being extremely mana costly for its duration. (even with glyph)

Your Seal is Seal of Light and your Judgement is Judgement of Wisdom (for when you need mana if you auto attacking the enemy) or Judgement of Justice (slows enemies to your speed)

7 - Priests
Devoting your life to the Light has been the greatest desire for you. With greater knowledge of the Light comes more understanding of the dark, and your studies have presented you with many paths to take.

Priests have a pure damage dealing spec and two healing specs but one WILL be skipped due to not having much pvp worthiness.

----- Discipline -----
Your studies and intense training have gifted you a gift unlike any other; the ability to shield others from damage and to heal the wounds of others with swiftness.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?priest#i0OLOj3vy8LL,8paqRO,12213
Basic spec in insure your survival via emergency healing and increased healing output to heal others.

----- Shadow -----
Your devotion to the light has taken a different path; you follow a different principle now- "fight fire with fire". No longer spending hours in the abbey, studying tomes; you spend your free time flaying and blasting minds of your enemies. You serve the Light in a much more wicked way.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?priest#Zt7h1d2qeuU11,ywaqRO,12213
A shielding glyph? Noobish mistake? I think not. A free 1.5-3k healing just for putting an absorption effect on yourself is very powerful in the middle of a fight.

8 - Shamans
While other magic users obtain their power from the perverted forces of the elements, the Shaman is attuned to the very primal form of the elements. From calling upon lightning to harm enemies to using nature magic to heal friends, the Shaman is a true force to be reckoned with.
The Shaman can fulfill different roles that range from caster damage, melee and spell damage mix, and healing.

----- Elemental -----
Tapping in the raw forces of nature, you unleash cackling bolts of lighting to decimate your foes. You have had enough of the enemy and their casters, perverting the very elements you use for their dirty schemes. On this day, you show what the true power of the elements can do.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?shaman#08z-jZmajr11,JykHR,12213
Basic spec when you can pull the points from Unrelenting Storm to put into Elemental Weapons when long fights are not common.

Your weapon enhancement enchant will be Flametongue Weapon, your elemental shield Lightning Shield and totems always out will be Totem of Wrath (fire), Cleansing Totem (water), Tremor Totem (earth), and Wrath of Air Totem (air). Use Grounding Totem to deflect spells and Stoneclaw Totem to shield yourself from damage.

----- Enhancement -----
Finding that pure magic use is not for you, you decided to pick up weapons in make use of them. Due to your direct communion with nature itself, your weapons swing with the might of the earth, speed of air, fluidity of water, and destruction of fire. You are a hand of nature's force.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?shaman#98oXwHoNJ2T2L,N8OHR,12213
Only movable points are the points from Static Shock, can be put into Call of Fire if wanted.

Your weapon enhancements will be Main - Windfury and Off- Flametongue and elemental shield Lightning Shield (if you use Static Shock, MAKE SURE LIGHTNING SHIELD IS UP!!) Totems always out will be Flametongue Totem (fire), Cleansing Totem (water), Tremor Totem (earth), and Wrath of Air Totem (air). Use Grounding Totem to deflect spells and Stoneclaw Totem to shield yourself from damage.

----- Restoration -----
Attunement directly to nature has blessed you with drastically increased healing prowess. You have managed to turn a destructive, chaining force into one that can heal an ally and move to heal another and another. Now you bring your mastery of the environment to the cause on the battlefield.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?shaman#fJqI4_2eBd31a,-MtHR,12213
Elemental Weapons can have points taken out of it and placed into Improved Water Shield or Earth Shield if you want.

Your weapon enhancement will be Earthliving Weapon, your elemental shield will be Water Shield (or Earth Shield, should you have talented for it), and your totems always out will be Flametongue Totem (fire), Cleansing Totem (water), Tremor Totem (earth), and Wrath of Air Totem (air). Use Grounding Totem to deflect spells and Stoneclaw Totem to shield yourself from damage. Use Mana Tide Totem when mana runs low.

9 - Hunters
Feeling more at home in the wilds than civilization, the Hunter takes pride in the defense of the wilds. Time spent in the wild created a communion between the Hunter and the beasts will serve as a loyal friend to he/she.

Hunters have three varied ways of dealing damage; elemental shot damage, physical shot damage, or ranged shots pared with vicious pet blows.

----- Marksman -----
Training for pure accuracy while raining fire down on the enemy, you have shown and proven that you are a mastery of ranged damage. The bodies 20 yards away from you seem to attest and prove your skill.

(Edited by Impazz)
spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?hunter#-YTuLREoJOO6g8,-He-eq,12213
"LOL!!! WHY LOCK AND LOAD NUB!?!" <- Simply put, when Aimed Shot and Chimera Shot are on cooldown, it is always nice to have something to spam; Hunters are meant to stay on the move, and Lock and Load lets us do that with Arcane Shot spam, provided we trap an enemy with Frost/Freezing Trap.
Impazz wrote:This does arena and BG's with no problem. 1v1? Facerape i'm serious. 5v1? With skills you could own 2 or more with ease. Barrage + Improved Barrage for an OP Aimed Shot since you'll use it alot! 1/3 piercing shot, 2/2 rapid recuperation if you've got mana problems. 2/2 rapid killing if you're a BG fan, arena it's useless. Survival subspec, disengage cooldown reduce, duh, extra HP sure it's good. Scatter for CC'ing, great in arena and 2v1 BG's. Survival instinct, pure as filler but it's quite a nice bonus. I 51/18 first, there's 2 points left i used them in piercing shots but you can get L&L, lock and loaded. Trap some1 66% chance ( or get 100% ) and use ALOT more arcane shots, great for kiting. .... If you want 100% remove 1 point from survivalist and put it in L&L.

Preferable pet is a Crab (Pin, Roar of Sacrifice)

----- Beast Mastery -----
Your bond to the wilderness has allowed you to make any beast you encounter to befriend you. Training your newfound friend has greatly increased its fighting prowess. Taking your soul bound friend from its place in nature into the war-torn battlefield, you show it its next meal is dead ahead.

(Edited by Impazz)
spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?hunter#YPY5vCg7vicaF,3H--eq,12213

Impazz wrote:5/5 endurance, yea more HP is nice. Thick hide and improved monkey won't do shit in BG's and Arena. 3/5 Frenzy since you'll get alot of crit rating of your gear. Gem AP over Agi, since your pet will benefit more of it. Remember your pet is everything to you if it dies, game over. 2/2 Improved revive pet facerolls that idea, it's a must. I chose the MM subspec because, more crit, more focus ( pet ), Aimed shot, more AP and a longer daze. You could go SV and get scatter, more overall dmg and perhaps L&L if you really want it. Beastcleave 2v2, pop CD's and overpower your enemies in a corner. Bestial wrath + trinket + master's call, is really epic.

The strength of Beast Mastery comes from, well, the beast. Knowing what the pet does in battle is best before you select one:
Core Hound = Slows enemy casting speed
Devilsaur = Increases its own damage
Chimera = Slows an enemy and deals damage (nice effect)

----- Survival -----
Time spent in nature has been very harsh to you, but you have learned to use the poisons found from nature in your fighting techniques. Your survival has trained you for this moment - as the gates open up, you take your faithful step out.

10 - Mages
Masters of the known forces of magic, Mages represent the elite casters of the mortal races. Using the power of Fire, Frost, and Arcane, Mages are feared and revered on the war-scarred fields.

----- Fire -----
Having a seething hate for your foes, you will to see them all burn. You have enlightened yourself on pyroclasm techniques and now have the tool to ensure nothing will remain of your enemies.

Fire with Deep Arcane -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?mage#BLloRaBl9q6SV8,tN9ORe,12213 (big thanks to hrrgrr for fixing this mess!)

By Hrrgrr
you can take out points here :
- Pyromaniac (1 Point)
- Arcane Shielding (1 to 2 Points, i wudn´t recommend removing them but feel free to play around ;D )
- Improved Counterspell (1 Point, keep one point at least, or you´re fucked against other casters ^^)

For Gems and Gear:
- Wherever you can Gem for Critical Strike Rating!
- Spellpenetration is rather important, but you should get a bit (around 60 in furious)
- Hit Rating should be around 5 to 6 %
- Enchants are pretty obvious, though you should get Tuskarr´s Vitality (15 Sta, minor run speed) on the boots and Spell Piercing on the Cloak (35 Spell Pen)
- Meta Gem should of course be the Caotic Skyflare Diamond (21 Crit Rating and 3% increased Crit DMG)

For Combat:
- Be sure to alway keep "Living Bomb" up, glyph for it, too!
- When you´re on a good distance start casting "Scorch"!
- When the enemy comes near you, Blink, Frost Nova, Cone of Cold, do whatever you can to keep your distance !
- Ice Block ONLY when there is NO other way out !
- Only use Evocation when you´re sure not to be interrupted so that you can heal up all the 60% HP
- In Bg´s stay in your lines and don´t charge into the enemy´s... you´re not a warrior ! =D

Also should be said, that you don´t always use Molten Armor
For example when you go low on mana or you fight other casters, use mage armor for the extra resistance and mana regeneration
When a rogue just won´t get off you, use Ice Armor and he will be slowed down so you can breathe again =)
Only use Molten Armor when you are abled to dps freely and when you know you will not be focussed.

I could write about the other two talent speccs but i prefer and have always played fire so i won´t... also its quarter past midnight now xD

Have a good one,
Roguereturns, Dragonsbreth, Raflcakez out
(Rogue) (Mage) (Warr)

feel free to ask questions ingame and per pm ;D

Fire with Deep Frost (Shatter build) -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?mage#flAr5VvJoBIQw,UN9ORe,12213

Theres also the shatter spec i play. Works great on getting hot streaks on frost novas and frostbites and even better if you have a frost mage throwing a deep freeze for a guaranteed hot streak. Imp counterspell is not that mandatory as you make it in your heads. CS still silences for 8 seconds if you interrupt a cast with it without the talent.

----- Arcane -----
Your thirst for power is undeniable and your studies are vigorous. Hours and hours spent looking through tomes has increased your knowledge beyond all means; you have found a pure force of power for your use. Using this power, you shall grant the enemies the death they deserve.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?mage#tpM2dWajTLfWmH,q39ORe,12213
You can opt to remove Frost talents and full in Prismatic Cloak, Arcane Mind, and Netherwind Presence.

Arcane uses a good amount of mana, so mana management is crucial.
Arcane Mages use Molten Armor.

----- Frost -----
Your way of dispatching enemies has always been cold; leaving them freezing and near death for time to finish them off has hardened your resolve. You now seek more enemies to leave frozen, helpless, hopeless.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?mage#_C84gHYcN01iaf5,b89O-3,12213 (Thanks to Araciz for hotfixing Frost Mage spec!)
Only reason went for deep Arcane was for Torment the Weak, if you think you can do without, filling Frost Warding or possibly going down into Fire for Burning Determination.

Frost focuses on freezing and slowing opponents and your slows also reduce healing thanks to talents. Freezing opponents grant a 50% crit chance increase until they are no longer frozen or treated frozen (Fingers of Frost talent).

Frost uses Ice Armor.

11. AddOns

*WHERE CAN I GET MY ADDONS?* right over here! -> http://www.indogamers.com/showthread.php?t=269769&page=1
(Thanks to hrrgrr for finding the link!)

Healing - Clique (configures clicks to cast a spell/ability)
Grid (displays party/raids health, status effects, best coupled with Clique)

Damage (Melee) + Damage (Caster) - I do not really use any damage addons, spellcasting nor melee. If you have any suggestions for this area or healing, feel free to speak your mind.

General - PowerAuras Classic (a MUST NEED addon to manage procs from talents (Art of War, Eclipse))

11. Macros
- General - (Thanks to Hrrgrr for starting this topic!)
Bandage Macro:

#showtooltip Heavy Frostweave Bandage
/stopattack
{/use Name of the Trinket}
/use Heavy Frostweave Bandage

stops your autoattack
will use a bandaid =)

{you can add a battlemasters trinket when you have one for a little boost. you know how that works i hope =D}

- Druids -
Powershifting - Absolutly one of the best druid macros made. This macro does an "instashift" back into the form you are in, instantly take off ALL roots and, if used as a feral druid in cat form, gives you a quick shot of energy.

Feral Druid-
/cast [stance:2] !Dire Bear Form
/cast [stance:3] !Aquatic Form
/cast [stance:4] !Cat Form
/cast [stance:5] !Travel Form

Balance Druid-
/cast [stance:2] !Dire Bear Form
/cast [stance:3] !Aquatic Form
/cast [stance:4] !Cat Form
/cast [stance:5] !Travel Form
/cast [stance:6] !Moonkin Form

Restoration Druid-
/cast [stance:2] !Dire Bear Form
/cast [stance:3] !Aquatic Form
/cast [stance:4] !Cat Form
/cast [stance:5] !Travel Form
/cast [stance:6] !Tree of Life

- Warriors -
Lopaay (highest ranked 2v2 Arms warrior) has already created an extensive guide on the standard Arms war macros. Check out Lopaay's guide at http://eternal-wow.com/forum/eternal/lopaay-arms-warrior-macros-t21019.html. Kudos for Lopaay showing some amazing skill with macros!

- Rogues - (thanks to Hrrgrr for filling this section)
Evasion Macro (short EVA, or U WON`T HIT ME CUZ I DODGE)

#showtooltip Evasion
/cast Evasion
/stopcasting
/cast !Ghostly Strike

First line secures when you mouseover the macro it will show the tooltip of Evasion
second line casts Evasion
third line stops everything you are currently doing (bandaging, adding poison.) but it won´t stop auto attacking
fourth line will cast Ghostly Strike when you have it, and when you are in melee range (you can delete this line when you dont have Ghostly Strike talented!)

I use that one to secure that i use both skills at a time, because they don´t share global cooldown. So i get an extra 75% dodge.

Throwing Macro:

#showtooltip Deadly Throw
/cast Deadly Throw
/cast Throw

First line, yea guess what it does ...
second one will cast Deadly Throw when you are "in range" of the target and have combo points
if you don´t have combo points it will cast throw instead.

I use it cuz i get one free action bar place and because it´s kinda faster than having to push 2 buttons (in my case i use C as keybind for this macro, before i used C for Deadly Throw and Shift+C for Throw.)

Stealth Macro:

#showtooltip Stealth
/cast [stance:0] Stealth

second line will cast stealth when you are unstealthed, so you can mash it and you won´t accidently unstealth.
!!!NOTICE!!!: doesn´t really work on eternal, not tested on the other realms though.

Tricks of the Trade Macro (short TotT):

#showtooltip Tricks of the Trade
/target playernamehere
/cast Tricks of the Trade
/targetlasttarget

yea,
will cast Tricks of the Trade on your arena mate, a group member, or whoever´s name you write into the macro without having you to click on the player. Very useful for Pvp!

- Mages - (Kudos to Hrrgrr and Araciz for building this section of Mage macros!)

Hrrgrr wrote:Counterspell Macro:

#showtooltip Counterspell
/stopcasting
/cast Counterspell

stops everything you´re doing
casts counterspell on the current target (can be modified to focus target or a specific name, but this works also pretty well for me)

I use this because it makes you able to kick "faster" (you see the warlock casting fear but you yourself are casting scorch, you need to move before you can cast counterspell = fear will get throug. with this macro you just mash the hotkey and you won´t be feared)

Hot Streak instant Pyro Macro:

#showtooltip Pyroblast
/stopcasting
/cast Pyroblast

stops everything
casts the instant Pyroblast.

same effect like in the one macro before ;D
you can also add a trinket by adding /use Name of the Trinket between the 2nd and 3rd line.

Araciz wrote:Ice Block:
#showtooltip Ice Block
/cancelaura Ice Block
/cast Ice Block

This is an easy macro to remove Ice Block once you casted it, so you dont need to wait out the full time.

Summon Water Elemental
#showtooltip Summon Water Elemental
/cast [nopet] Summon Water Elemental
/cast [pet] Freeze

A simple macro so you dont have to click on your Water Ele his Freeze skill, but you can simply press the Water Ele again for it to cast.

Polymorph on mouseover/focus

#showtooltip Polymorph
/clearfocus [target=focus,dead][target=focus,noexists]
/focus [target=mouseover,exists][target=focus,noexists]
/script SetRaidTarget("focus", 1)
/cast [target=focus] Polymorph

This is a little more advanced macro, but, since mages tend to get into a lot of trouble in my experience, this macro will Polymorph your mouseover target, and sets focus to it. If there is no mouseover target, it will cast on your focus target.

If you have any recommended Macros, send a tell and I'll be sure to add! :)

13. Things You Should Know

This section covers small things, like hit caps and haste caps.

Haste cap (when GCD equals 1 second) = 50% haste (1639.5) without ANY modifiers (talents)

Hit cap (melee) = 153.75 (5%) Hit cap (spell) = 104.93 (4%)

Armor Penetration hard cap = 1398.9 rating (99.99% ArP)

14. Final Messages
I thank you for the time reading this and I am glad if it has helped you or not. I am accepting creative criticism (not "LOL DOOD YOU SUCK") from masters of their classes if they are willing to help bring a few finishing touches to this beginner guide.

Impazz says;
I hope this helped, for in depth guides such as, rotations and how to ( duel, arena or BG ), just PM me, I don't claim to be the best, but i've seen some really bad donors here ( LOL )

Good job, but your talent build for ret is broken there are talents wich no1 ret pally don't need for pvp, so this is mine and it's work perfect for me , for all others ret pallys will work too if they have a good tactics to play

http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?paladin ... a-3e,12213

I updated the Ret Pally spec to your recommendation as I can understand where you come from. The only topic I have a differing issue from yours is Swift Retribution vs Righteous Vengeance. Pallys have always been a supportive class and a 3% haste bonus for other people in arena/BG is significant enough to consider...not to mention the awkward "breaking of sheep/blind" due to Righteous Vengeance leaving a DoT on an enemy.

Thanks for your help! :D

----- Fire -----
Having a seething hate for your foes, you will to see them all burn. You have enlightened yourself on pyroclasm techniques and now have the tool to ensure nothing will remain of your enemies.

spec -> http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?mage#flKizx67bP-Nv,tN9ORe,12213

Fire focuses on Scorch instead of Fireball, like you may think.
Fire Mages use Molten Armor.

Well, first off all you dont want to specc into frost at all, except maybe for 3 points in Ice Floes.
Specc shud look like : http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?mage#BLloRaBl9q6SV8,tN9ORe,12213

you can take out points here :

I've never had any real background with Mages, I always assumed going Frost for Icy Veins was always essential for significant burst, but I can see the logic of deep Arcane for a silence. I dreaded this part of the guide (and am still dreading the AddOn and Macro part, if I ever get around to it!) and am glad to get some assitance with it. I'll modify the guide with your info.

Thanks for your input. :D

Adding a few variety specs will be good for the guide will be healthy for it by giving the choice of play style they want. Never really viewed Shatter as a possible Fire talent choice. I'll update the guide for two proposed specs for people to choose upon.

Thanks for the help mate! 8-)

Counterspell does NOT silence for 8 seconds when you kick a cast
it only locks all spells of this school, for example when you fight a shadow priest and you interrupt one of his holy spells, he will still be abled to cast shadow spells, but if you interrupt him with improved counterspell he will not be able to cast at all for 4 seconds, can save your ass pretty hard =)

never heard of the shatter build but i´m gonna try it, sounds interresting, though Fiery Payback is bugged almost 100% of the time and your pyro becomes a 1,4 second cast(with 5 seconds cooldown, sadly) ^^

So, now that i got a few minutes i will post some of my macros =)
I iwill also explain what the macro does and why i use it as it is.

Let´s start with Rogue :

Bandage Macro:

#showtooltip Heavy Frostweave Bandage
/stopattack
{/use Name of the Trinket}
/use Heavy Frostweave Bandage

stops your autoattack
will use a bandaid =)

{you can add a battlemasters trinket when you have one for a little boost. you know how that works i hope =D}

And onto Mage macros. Here I only got two really usefull macros.

Counterspell Macro:

Gd Lords and Ladys,

Not the best guideS i've seen but atleast you put some effort in it which is just amazing!

DK specs: Frost is reasonable, but Unholy on the other hand is just terrible.
Lock specs: Meh, you must be a BG hero? Destruction spec is good, but the Affliction is terribe too!
Hunter specs: MM with L&L, this spec is much more for 'experienced' hunters as it's not a cookie cutter spec. Pretty nice, some talents were wasted and some important weren't taken. BM spec is very horrible. SV spec, for new hunters it's 'something' but for more experienced ones it's epic fail. Note: 3/3 expose weakness? None of the specs got 'decrease disengage'.

Good Job.

I appreciate the effort saying some of my spec are "horribad" but if they are THAT HORRIBLE, could you at least put some effort and help others by showing the correct spec? Thanks!

Over all a good begginers guide, very well done, and im sure it will help many people.
Then now for the constructive critisism, in my opinion you tend to script your dps rotations to much, this should not be done, not even by beginners, ofcourse you can have a few small rotations, but dont do it to much, since people otherwise will keep doing that, even if they get better. Also I do not fully agree with your frostmage build, since I think improved Counterspell is just to important when doing arena or battlegrounds, incase you need to silence a druid or priest befor he get a chance to cast instant heals.
(http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?mage#_C ... 9O-3,12213)

Also some macro's I find very useful, with explination:

Ice Block:
#showtooltip Ice Block
/cancelaura Ice Block
/cast Ice Block

This is an easy macro to remove Ice Block once you casted it, so you dont need to wait out the full time.

Summon Water Elemental
#showtooltip Summon Water Elemental
/cast [nopet] Summon Water Elemental
/cast [pet] Freeze

A simple macro so you dont have to click on your Water Ele his Freeze skill, but you can simply press the Water Ele again for it to cast.

Polymorph on mouseover/focus

#showtooltip Polymorph
/clearfocus [target=focus,dead][target=focus,noexists]
/focus [target=mouseover,exists][target=focus,noexists]
/script SetRaidTarget("focus", 1)
/cast [target=focus] Polymorph

This is a little more advanced macro, but, since mages tend to get into a lot of trouble in my experience, this macro will Polymorph your mouseover target, and sets focus to it. If there is no mouseover target, it will cast on your focus target.

Those are the most important ones for mage, and the Counterspell macro I saw already ofcourse. I wont go into other classes, since there are probably a lot more skilled people to do that for me. Well done and keep up the good work.
