Hello and welcome to my Instance Guide for beginners.
I first want to tell that I do not do very many instances. This guide will only (more will come) include the guide on how to do POS. As I have not that much experience, but do have a lot of tips I can give you guys, I would like to make a start with making a guide like this.
There will be a lot added as I go trough various other instances, probably ICC, FOS or anything else. I have done Black Temple in the past, but that was on another private servers. This guide will not include any class particular tips, but will be handling all tips in general. There a lot of guides on how to do an instance on youtube or google. I will maybe refence to them.
Gear
We will first be handling gear.
Dalaran map for gear and information
Every seller for gear sells high leveled gear, I think T9 or T10.
As you probably just become 80, you will only have some blues, maybe a couple of epics or just some greens. That is no problem in my experience. The best to start up with is T7 (Which you can buy for 5000 gold, full geared), but that is not necessary. I have raided with people between 2k GS and 4k GS and they all do just fine. Gear Score is not everything and it SAYS NOTHING ABOUT THE PLAYER! Please do not base actions and decissions on Gear Score alone!
(I am totally against GS, but since everyone is using it, I might aswell too. Gear Score says nothing about the person himself and he can be a total douche bag for all I know. People with 6k+ Gear Score can still wipe out your party, when the person isen't skilled enough. With POS that wouldn't realy matter, but when it goes for Heroic or ICC, you are probably screwed)
When killing a Boss monster, any boss monster, you will get 2 Emblems, depending on the instance you are doing. You can exchange those emblems, from 25 to 75 emblems, for gear. Also, you might want to vote before you go into any instance. You can really get some great gear in voting.
POS
When you become level 80 and you would really like some new gear, the best way is to go to Pit of Saron (For short, POS). With POS you can kill Ick, Forgemaster Garfrost and Tyrannus.
When going for normal POS, it should be pretty straight forward. You should just be able to go trough all of the bosses at once. As I do not have a walking patch for Tyrannus (which I will add later) will probably not have a problems going to him. I will add tips in text on how to go there with the boss Tyrannus.
1. When you get in, go around the small tent thing.
2. You do not have to jump here
3. Just go trough, make sure you don't pull.
4. Go over the small hills as you arrive at ICK.
5. (LOOK AT ICK TIPS BELOW) When killed, move on.
6. Move on trough the middle. Don't wall hug, else you get wiped by weird monster, but only tanker and one DPS can kill this monster. It is strange, but 3 party members died and me and someone else killed the remaining mosnter. The monster that attacks you drops you to the ground and starts eating your body. You will die when you are dropped, so watch out. Kill the Mini-boss (The on in the yellow robe) and move on.
7. Move on up stairs.
8. Kill Garfrost and then go either to Tyrannus or do the whole instance again.
Tips
As I have experienced it, Ick is the hardest monster to go for. As some of the beginners might not know, the Toxic Explosion can be dangerous and I have only party members die with Ick when I was leading the party.
Tips in General
- Do not always go for Gear Score, the person might be something else.
- Remaking a party is for my experience faster than Resetting. There might be some problems with resetting an instance, as remaking a party with going infront of FOS when done with POS, it might be a bit quicker.
- Always go for 1 tank, 1 healer and 3 DPS characters in a party for POS.
- Please don't PULL mobs, as this can be very annoying for other party members. This being an accident, it's no problem at all, but for some people it can be annoying.
- Priests are great for buffing and Shaman have Totems.
Tips for Ick
Normal POS
- - Make sure you are buffed all times
- Have your tank through something at ick to Taunt him and pull aggro.
- Quickly all attack ICK.
- As he has lost about 100k health, he might be doing a Toxic Explosion or placing Arance like mines at your feet. Both of these skills are very dangerous for beginning players.
Toxic Explosion - Run away from him as he casting the Toxic Explosion to avoid being hit. As you will get hit, you will get about an 8k hit from the toxic explosion.
Arance like mines - When ICK is starting to cast Arcane Mines, you should only move around and run to the open spots. The beginner rounds explode and give you about 2k arcane damage. They are forming at your feet from small to big.
- Ick is also laying down poison carpent. About every 5 seconds you will get about a 4k hit from the toxic fumes. Please avoid these capets.
- Ick hits about 1300 tot 4k damage.
Heroic POS
Added for HC POS:
- Ick hits with his Toxic Explosion 24k hits. As I have not been hit myself, my party members confirmed so.
- Ick normally hits around 6k to 8k.
Tips for Garfrost
Normal POS
- - Make sure you are buffed all times
- Have your tank through something at ick to Taunt him and pull aggro.
- Quickly all attack ICK.
- Garfrost isen't really that hard, as he has no good skills that hit that much. Garfrost does jumps 2 times from one spot to another spot and the monsters around him can get a bit annoying. First kill the monsters around if you would like, but the only thing they can do is set your healer or ranged DPS focussed on them.
Heroic POS
Haven't done Garfrost on HC.
Tips for Tyrannus
Normal POS
- - Make sure you are buffed all times
- Have your tank through something at ick to Taunt him and pull aggro.
- Tyrannus is the easiest, as it goes for my personal experience.
- You have to walk up the cliff, just past ick.
- If you aggro good enough, you only have to aggro 2 monsters with the 2 groups on the cliff.
- There is another group of monsters infront of the cave, you can walk past them.
- Inside the cave you have to kill some monsters, shouldn't be to hard.
- Get Tyrannus in the cave so the big flying dragon can't do anything to you.
- The only thing that is annoying about him, is that he throws you back like 2 times.
- He hits normal, around 1k to 3k.
- No high hit skills
Heroic POS
Have not yet done Tyrannus in Heroic mode.
