<Professions Leveling 101>

#1 by phalanx13 » Thu Dec 16, 2010 4:38 pm

Hi.
Some of the professions listed here were from my guide in a TBC private server (rates were x1 but 100% success); however there are also those I've already updated for Eternal-Wow (rates are x10 but not 100% success).
If it says Updated for Eternal-Wow that's that. ;)

ENCHANTING = Updated for Eternal-Wow
NOTE: *** = indicates a new rod must be made; refer to wowhead.com where you can find items/level to disenchant; take note that dusts are disenchanted mostly from world drops, while essences are disenchanted from dungeons
ALSO: I put only the recipes that you can do while they are orange/yellow skill level; green-color recipes usually fail to level up your prof so you'd end up wasting mats; sometimes yellow-color recipes would fail, but that's a rare occurrence

1-11: ***Runed Copper Rod = 1 copper rod, 1 strange dust, 1 lesser magic essence
11-101: Enchant Bracer (Minor Health) = 9 strange dust
101-151: Enchant Bracer (Minor Agility) = 8 strange dust, 4 greater magic essence
*** Runed Silver Rod = 1 silver rod, 6 strange dust, 3 greater magic essence, 1 runed copper rod
151-161: *** Runed Golden Rod = 1 golden rod, 1 iridescent pearl, 2 greater astral essence, 2 soul dust, 1 runed silver rod
161-191: Enchant Bracer (Lesser Stamina) = 6 soul dust
191-221: Enchant Boots (Lesser Stamina) = 12 soul dust
221-231: ***Runed Truesilver Rod = 1 truesilver rod, 1 black pearl, 2 greater mystic essence, 2 vision dust, 1 runed golden rod
231-261: Enchant Cloak (Greater Defense) = 9 vision dust
261-301: Enchant Gloves (Greater Agility) = 8 lesser eternal essence, 12 illusion dust
301-341: Enchant Chest (Restore Mana Prime) = 8 lesser planar essence, 8 arcane dust
***Runed Arcanite Rod = 1 arcanite rod, 1 golden pearl, 10 illusion dust, 4 greater eternal essence, 2 large brilliant shard, 1 runed truesilver post
341-351: ***Runed Fel Iron Rod = 1 fel iron rod, 4 greater eternal essence, 4 large brilliant shard, 1 runed arcanite rod
351-361: ***Runed Adamantite Rod = 1 adamantite rod, 8 greater planar essence, 8 large prismatic shard, 1 primal might, 1 runed fel iron rod
361-381: Enchant Gloves (Major Strength) = 24 arcane dust, 2 greater planar essence
***Runed Eternium Rod = 1 eternium rod, 6 greater planar essence, 6 arcane dust, 1 runed adamantite rod
381-411: Enchant Weapon (Greater Potency) = 6 infinite dust, 12 lesser cosmic essence
411-431: Enchant Chest (Mighty Health) = 6 greater cosmic essence
431-450: Enchant Chest (Greater Mana Restoration) = 8 infinite dust, 8 greater cosmic essence
*If you only want to get the enchanter-only ring stats - you need only to get to level 400 to train and just have a runed eternium rod.

*Tinkers require level 400 engineering. And this profession is extremely effective in PVP.

BLACKSMITHING = Updated for Eternal-WoW
NOTE: Some of the recipes listed here are usable even at green level, which I did write down, simply because the mats are easy to obtain = thus even if you don't get a skill point, you can keep trying and trying.

1-41: Rough Sharpening Stone = 4 rough stone
41-91: Rough Grinding Stone = 10 rough stone (make more of these for later recipes)
91-101: Coarse Grinding Stone = 2 coarse stone (make more of these for later recipes)

421-431: Eternal Belt Buckle = 4 saronite bar, 1 eternal earth/water/shadow
431-441: Savage/Ornate Saronite Walkers = 12 saronite bar, 1 eternal shadow
441-450: Helm of Command = 14 saronite bar, 1 eternal fire (actually most yellow-level recipes would require the same number of saronite, but a different kind of eternal element)
*if you only want the BS-specific glove and wrist prismatic slots, BS level 400 is fine.

JEWELCRAFTING = Updated for Eternal-WoW
NOTE: JC is extremely easy to level later on 300-450 due to the abundance of uncut gems (even if a recipe turns green, you'll still have enough gems to spare to get another level up, hopefully); you'll probably only find it a bit slow early on, especially if you don't have mining (Auction Houses/Guild Banks will be your primary source of mats).

1-41: Delicate Copper Wire = 8 copper bar
41-51: Braided Copper Ring = 2 delicate copper wire
51-101: Elegant Silver Ring = 5 silver bar
101-131: Ring of Silver Might = 6 silver bar

261-291: Simple Opal Ring = 3 large opal, 3 thorium setting
291-301: Emerald Lion Ring = 2 huge emerald, 1 thorium setting
301-351: Outland Gem Recipes = skill up recipes that use gems like shadow draenite, golden draenite, flame spessarite, azure moonstone, deep peridot, blood garnet (these are plentiful and cheap)
You can train these from JC trainers in Honor Hold and Thrallmar
351-401: Northrend Uncommon Recipes = bloodstone, dark jade, huge citrine, shadow crystal, sun crystal, chalcedony
401-441: Northrend Rare Recipes = scarlet ruby, forest emerald, monarch topaz, twilight opal, autumn's glow, sky sapphire
- you can also try making one of the JC-only trinkets (a combination of 2 titanium bar, and some rare uncut gems)
441-450: Northrend Accessories = runed mana band/emerald choker/sky sapphire amulet/scarlet signet (at least 2 titanium bar and one rare uncut gem)
*If you only want to use the Dragon's Eye gems - you'll need to have level 370 just to buy the recipe (and two JC tokens as well); for the rare-level JC trinkets - you need to be level 400.

311-331: Netherweave Belt = 6 bolt of netherweave, 2 rune thread

341-351: Netherweave Robe = 8 bolt of netherweave, 2 rune thread
351-381: Bolt of Frostweave = 15 frostweave cloth
381-401: Frostwoven Boots = 8 bolt of frostweave, 2 eternium thread
401-411: Duskweave Handwraps = 8 bolt of frostweave, 1 eternium thread

441-450: Maginificent Flying Carpet = 12 bolt of imbued frostweave, 4 monarch topaz, 4 red dye, 2 yellow dye, 4 iceweb spider silk
or you can keep making Frostweave Bags and hope you level up your skill even with a green recipe
*Tailors have access to Embroideries (level 400) for their cloaks, and leg enchants that require only a thread to create.

431-441: Use Book of Glyph Mastery to learn new glyphs and create them to level up
441-450: Runescroll of Fortitude = 1 ink of the sea, 5 resilient parchment
*Master Inscriptions require only level 400 of the profession. Using Book of Glyph Mastery requires level 425. Remember to always use your Inscription Research skills (there's two of them) every 20 hours to learn more glyphs.
Please take note that Inscription is not a big money-making skill (compared to Jewelcrafting, Mining, or even Enchanting); still, it's one of the most useful ones since every class wants glyphs; you'll definitely get a lot of requests from guildmates/random players since Inscriptionists are few and far between.
If you really want big profit from this - make Darkmoon cards for trinkets - just be sure the money you make is significantly worth the time, effort, and gold you put into completing these.

LEATHERWORKING = New for Eternal-WoW
1-51: Light Armor Kit = 4 light leather
51-61: Handstitched Leather Cloak = 2 light leather, 1 coarse thread

401-411: Frostscale Boots = 10 borean leather
OPTION A =>
411-421: Black Chitinguard Boots = 25 nerubian chitin, 6 crystallized water
421-431: Vendor wrist = 3 heavy borean leather (recipe cost), 8 heavy borean leather, 1 eternal air
OPTION B =>
411-431: Fur Lining = 2 arctic fur
--------
431-441: Leggings of Visceral Strikes = 12 heavy borean leather, 2 eternal air
441-450: Ice Striker's Cloak = 2 arctic fur, 6 eternal fire, 4 eternal shadow, 1 frozen orb
*Leatherworking emboss/fur linings require 400 in the skill to keep; leg enchants for the LW's actual items are a good way to save money and mats.
This profession's money-making capability is somewhat offset by the EXTREME rarity of jormungar worm mobs - which drop mats necessary to make rare-level leg armor. However, if you have another account with several vote points, you may save yourself the trouble and just get Arctic Furs (x5 = 40vp) and make epic-level leg armor instead.
What's the most useful about having an LW though? Creating Drums.

ALCHEMY = New for Eternal-WoW
1-81: Minor Healing Potion = 8 peacebloom, 8 silverleaf, 8 empty vial
81-111: Lesser Healing Potion = 3 minor healing potion, 3 briarthorn
111-161: Healing Potion = 5 bruiseweed, 5 briarthorn, 5 leaded vial
161-201: Greater Healing Potion = 4 liferoot, 4 kingsblood, 4 leaded vial

301-331: Adept's Elixir = 3 dreamfoil, 3 felweed
331-351: Elixir of Draenic Wisdom = 2 felweed, 2 terocone
== Now choose your Specialization
351-371: Transmute Primal Might (since I picked Trans. Mastery)
Require's Philosopher's Stone = 4 iron bar, 1 black vitriol, 4 purple lotus, 4 firebloom (you can get the recipe from an Alchemist npc in Gadgetzan)
Primal Might = 1 of each primal earth/air/water/fire/mana
371-391: Spellpower Elixir = 2 goldclover, 2 tigerlily, 2 imbued vial
391-401: Elixir of Mighty Strength = 2 tigerlily, 1 imbued vial
401-431: Transmute Titanium = 24 saronite bar
431-450: Transmute Skyflare Diamond = 2 bloodstone, 2 chalcedony, 2 eternal air
*Alchemists get the Mixology passive which increases the effects from flasks/elixirs they use.
I'm not really sure if it works on the event shard flasks (ie. I have Eternal Flask of the Frost Wyrm and the Mixology bonus doesn't show up).
One perk for Alch's though, while the ore rates have been heavily nerfed, is being able to transmute epic gems every 20 hours. You only need to be level 65 to learn skill 450 alchemy and thus be able to transmute epic gems.

MINING

from a good player in our old server wrote:Personally i find alliance teritories to be the best source of mining veins so here it goes
Copper: Elwynn Forest--> Fargodeep mine and Jasperlode mine
Tin: Westfall--> Jangolode mine
Silver: Its quite rare but best place to search for it is Westfall
Iron: Wetlands-->run around the edges of map.You'll find insane amount of veins there
Gold: Stranglethorn Vale -> there is a lot of gold scattered around the map
Mithril: Blasted Lands-->Nethergarde Mine.
Truesilver and Thorium: Burning Steppes -> Thorium veins are dense around Ruins of Thaurissan
Fel Iron: Honor Hold mine -> in Hellfire Peninsula
Adamantite: Skettis
Khorium: scattered around Outland; Nagrand isn't a bad spot

my additions:
Copper = Horde can find a lot just a bit south of the Orgrimmar dueling area
Tin = north of the Alliance base in Ashenvale
Silver = around the Horde base in Ashenvale
Iron = scattered
Gold = STV same as above
Mithril = same as above
Truesilver/Dark Iron = a bit north of the Alliance base in Burning Steppes (a small mountain filled with ogres)
Thorium = Ruins of Thaurissan in Burning Steppes
Fel Iron = Thrallmar mine
Adamantite = a lot scattered just to the northwest edge of Shattrath
Khorium = probably same as above; didn't bother mining much for these
WOTLK minerals
#Cobalt = from the southern coast of Borean Tundra all the way east (just follow the coastline)
#Saronite = easily gathered in Icecrown
#Titanium = previously there were a lot in Sholazar and Icecrown (but the last update removed a lot of nodes)

Very good wrap-up on this. What is the "*" about?

I have a couple of buddies that are working on professions right now.

I have managed to get Herbalism, Inscription, First Aid and Tailoring all the way to 450 :)

In progress: Alchemy, Engineering, Mining, Fishing and Cooking

I am still waiting to see if Tailoring pays off (I highly doubt it and I only started it to get a flying carpet).

If you haven't messed with Professions here is my quick take:

There are some that go hand in hand (e.g. Herbalism/Inscription) and there are some that are dependent on "other" professions too much. For example when doing Enchanting you need Rods that come from Blacksmithing which you really need Mining for Blacksmithing so you end up being at the mercy of others (somewhat).

My next personal opinion is "STAY AWAY FROM ALCHEMY" the reason: FISHING! You need to actually fish for alchemy stuff. It wouldn't be so tough but fishing... REALLY??? Plus nobody does it (for fun or as a means of income) so the AH is almost 100% VOID of mats for it. I struggled to get past like level 60 or so (needed firefin snapper... yea). I forgot also that you need herbs as well.

From what I've seen the best $$$ makers is JC and Enchanting. JC because well everyone needs Jewels and Enchanting because well everyone wants enchants. Not only that but the materials from disenchants sell like crazy because you need them for other things (some tailoring etc.)

The most middle of the road profession is IMO Inscription. You can sell glyphs but at a point everyone will have the glyphs they use and not swap out. After that you have a couple of things. The first is some good inscription only "enchants" and the second is the darkmoon faire decks. They are a bitch to make but the cards can sell for about 1.5k/ea. and decks for 60K+ depending on the deck. IDK the GS on any of the trinkets the decks get you or how far they will take you in the end game but they beat the shit out of what I have now so I'm patiently waiting for the Faire to come again so I can trade in my undeath deck :)

Jewelcrafting is definitely the money-maker among professions.

As for the "*" = I was just marking when a new enchanting rod needed to be made. ;)

These are very helpful.

Is there any accompanying "Here is how to Blacksmith" or "Here is how to Jewelcraft"?

Uhhh.. Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting are already here in the guide..

If you mean:

"How to make money?" out of those professions, I already gave some tips on which crafted items would be bestsellers.

What I cannot figure out is what to do when I get to a Blacksmith Trainer when I have my Rough Stone and Copper Ore. I have a blacksmith hammer. I have 1/75 for the Blacksmith skill. I just don't know what to do when I get to the dude with all the stuff. Am I missing something? Recipe? I dunno. :pray:

Uhhh, you speak to the Blacksmithing Trainer NPC.

You learn all the available recipes each time they pop up (make sure you place a CHECK MARK on "Show - Available").

Been there, done that. I have (already had purchased) the first level of Blacksmithing.

From what I know, I have everything. I'm at the anvil and the forge is right there. What am I supposed to do? I click on the anvil and/or the forge and nothing happens.

D'oh..

Let's get to the bottom of this...

You learned BS = check
You have the mats = check
You're standing infront of an anvil/forge = check
You bought a Blacksmith Hammer from the BS supplies vendor = check

Are you sure you're opening your BLACKSMITHING skill from the Skills Menu?
(Press P -> General Tab -> Blacksmithing)

(a) Nothing happens when you click the skill?
-or-
(b) The blacksmithing tab opens but there's nothing there?

If it's (A) - simply type
Code: Select all
/reload
.

It appears the above was where I had my disconnect. I thought it was somewhat like Mining in which you simply click the copper/tin/silver/whatever and it "does" it for you.

Thanks very much and thanks for your patience with me!

Oh no no..

You have to OPEN your skill bar = Keyboard "P".

Select the Blacksmithing skill = and the BS tab will appear with all the recipes you can make

Then you need to be standing near an anvil/forge + have a Blacksmith's hammer with you + the mats

= then watch the magic~

;)

If for some reason you click the skill button and nothing happens, you have to /reload and it will work.

This can be purchased from MOONGLADE from this Elf (Lorelei Wintersong)
Image

To get there, you'll need to traverse all the way up to Felwood zone to the north, pass through a cave full of hostile NPCs, swim up to Moonglade's central hub, and pray that the vendor is selling the item and no one has bought it yet.

Or, you can just get a druid to teleport to Moonglade immediately and buy it (or camp it until it's back in the vendor's selling table).

Very useful guide. But where can I get the recipes for epic gems and dragon's eye gems, together with JC tokens?
