Tired of lag? " CLICK ME!!! "

#1 by Themis » Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:21 pm

The Ultimate Lag be-gone Guide.

Tired of lag? Just want head-butt your computer? Well.... I have a solution to fix that nasty habit.

If you’re running Windows Vista or Windows 7, then most likely you have Aero running.
This is a feature that allows your windows and menu to appear transparent and provides the desktop with more vibrant colors.
Although it makes your Desktop look cooler, it pulls a lot from your computer’s graphics card.
At least while you are playing a game, it is a very good idea to turn it off. To have Aero automatically turn off while WoW is playing follow the following steps:

Right click on the WoW.exe > Properties > Compatibility > Then make sure the box ‘Disable Desktop Composition’ is checked.

If your on a laptop and you and have your charger plugged in make sure its running on High Performance.

Making sure your computer doesn’t have to focus on any other programs than the ones you want,
you can disable programs from starting automatically when your computer is started. To Stop Unneeded Programs from Startup:

Start > type: “msconfig” in search bar > msconfig > Selective Startup > Click: Load System Services and Load Startup Items > Go to the Services tab >
Click: Hide all Microsoft Services (Make sure there is a checkmark in the box now) > Disable All > OK > Restart your computer.

The following program are free software * which means its legal *

http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

This program negates any functions on your computer that are slowing them down basically taking out any un-needed processes, it can take your CPU usage from 90 to 20% easily * THIS IS THE BIG THING IN THE GUIDE! * without this program the rest of the changes are minuscule this is my secret to a faster game.

I hope this guide helps run your wow better, any questions or suggestions? Post them!

Another thing, on the Game Booster there is a option called Game Defrag make sure you defrag your wow.exe every month or so and you'll for sure notice a huge boost in your gaming habitat.

Me neither. My internet connection is awesome, so I do not need anything to reduce my lag, because I have no lag. Great guide though, a lot of useful stuff. Though, most of the time the lag is more your internet connection, not the computer that makes the lag.

Will this decrease MS or improve FPS?

I´ll test it because of I´m getting some delays in bgs(redemption realm) while my latency meter is in green, exactly at 105 ms.

I play with 70 fps in pve and 40-50 fps in pvp in Ultra settings.

I would like to add something:
If you are still experiencing low frames per second, you can:
increase fps cap by typing:
/console maxfps 100

check your ingame graphics settings and lower them if necessary ;
Check and lower your video card settings if necessary.
make sure you always have the latest video card drivers. My own experience shows that many "lag" problems are caused by old video card drivers.

Hope i helped a bit.
I could make more explanations about setting up video card and in game settings, but i need to sleep

there is a program that can reduce Latency to server and its called Battleping. it's a really helpful program and your lag will be decreased by like 150-250 if you have high ping

NOTE
the amount decreased varies on your connection to battleping servers i think.

btw.. Just thinking, does using aero cost in gpu or cpu performace? Also, for possibly better video quality (fps)you may want to go to video settings->vertical sync or V. Sync and click it on. It might help.

I'd also like to recommend a program called Leatrix Latency, which should lower your MS!

Download link: Leatrix Latency

Leatrix Latency wrote:Leatrix Latency Fix will reduce your online gaming latency significantly by increasing the frequency of TCP acknowledgements sent to the game server. For the technically minded, this is a program which will modify TCPAckFrequency.

You will see reduced latency in many online games including Star Wars, World of Warcraft, Rift, Aion, Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, and more.

v sync usually makes things worse.. if you keep it off you will result in better fps

I tested with VSync and without, the same FPS but vsync really helps against screen tearing, that i have on desktop. You could also add an OCing part to ur guide, which is already good.
