Brief Planned Downtime Tonight

#1 by Cyph3r » Tue Jan 04, 2011 3:33 pm

I'll be migrating our game realm servers to a larger cabinet in our game datacenter tonight, sometime between 1AM-5AM server time (CST/GMT-6). Realms should only be down for 10-20 minutes max. This is an expansion in preparation for our new server boxes which should arrive late this week, and we hope to have installed within the next few weeks.

Will this change bring down the lag we have in the server? I've had lots of lag lately, surprisingly enough not because of latency.

Tonight's changes will not, however they are to prepare for the new boxes that will be installed in a couple weeks, whose sole points are to reduce lag, provide isolation between the realms (one realm restarting will no longer lag the others), and to provide redundancy in emergency situations/failures.

With that being said, this was all put into motion a few weeks ago when we *were* having significant lag, and I'm not hearing much about any lag lately. Either way, though, we're always putting resources into making things the best they can be here.

Well thats good to know, and i hope things go well :)
Ill have to agree with him though, at points through out the day we have been experiencing MASSIVE amounts of lag spikes and whatnot. As is, you're in a BG, and you see everyone but a very few run in a single spot, and next thing yuh know they completely disappear and are like behind you or something. It sucks at times :(

Could we please get a few minutes warning in-game via a server announcement when you are about to restart or take it offline to work? I appreciate the work you are doing and the fact that you have to do it when you have time and I'm not upset by the downtime as it needs to be done but It's really frustrating when you are in the middle of killing a boss and it just disconnects, a few minutes notice for us would not impact your work time greatly and would mean we would know not to start an encounter, get to a safe spot etc.

Thank You

This was the data center, not us, and it was done when they wanted too, not when we wanted them too.

Does this mean that Remorse is going to be released by the end of this week? :o

The only answer I can give you is that it will be released when we feel that its ready to launch we don't wanna release a half-ass realm! =) we are working very hard to get things done and you'll be let know when we make a decision on the release date!
