Update: Another night of caffeine and hope. Thanks Greg for your great work. Issues turned out to be far greater than first expected, but all is resolved now.

We are aware of the Redemption lag/crashes and are working to resolve it. Current ETA, Updated: Resolved.

Regarding the issues earlier today, we were under a DDOS attack, and our DDOS protection didn't fully mitigate as designed. We worked with the company to correct the issue.
It appears we are not the only server under attack lately... several others in the community are reporting similar problems. Attacks have increased heavily in the community over the last couple of months, and we're actively working to make these attacks a concern of the past.

Don't despair, all will be well soon.

We've never had a rollback. You're referring to autosaves. They occur every 3 minutes. At most you can only ever lose 3 minutes of work, and for a scheduled restart, you can do a ".save" to to a manual save of your character data.

Possible the attackers were using this anti-hacking system to their advantage? A GM said in World Chat earlier today on Redemption that the hackers being detected were the reason for the lag.

it's probably blizzard . i wouldn't put it past them to hire some shady characters to "handle" the private server issue xD yeah, i know it's a conspiracy theory, but hell, it's very much a plausible idea. could also be another certain competitive server, not naming any names

keep on truckin', everyone who matters can wait patiently, maybe do some real world stuff.
