Lagosaurus Strikes Back!

#1 by Cyph3r » Tue Aug 02, 2011 6:01 pm

Eternal has been plagued by varying degrees of lag, most noticeably on the Eternal and Remorse realms, over the last few weeks or so. Some of the issues causing this were already fixed, but one hard to determine cause remained undetermined.

We've determined as of yesterday that the Eternal/Remorse server has a hardware issue - most likely a hard drive that is on its way to an early grave, causing the system to be about 3x slower than it should be. As a result, I've ordered a replacement server system and hardware and this will become the new Eternal/Remorse server (it's a bit beefed up too, for good measure) and the old server will be repaired and used for expansion. This new hardware should arrive this weekend and we hope to have it up and running before the following weekend at the latest.

This is the explanation for your lag on these realms even when your ping seems great, but it took a lot of digging to find, since no hardware has actually completely failed yet (thanks Hex).

With any luck, we will kill this dirty beast for some time to come! Death to you, Lagosaurus!

I know redemption has been having some lag problems of it's own. Although the player base tends to complain rather than provide constructive criticism, thanks to the staff for taking some time and effort to address the problems.
May the Lagosaurous fall swiftly.

That's great for those realms, but what about Redemption? There's massive lag problems there that weren't around a few months ago. As my machine is now, it was able to run smoothly when I played WoW; now I can't go to Sholazar for a Mining run without getting MASSIVE fps drops, making it hell for my Druid.

When will THIS issue be addressed?

PS: I get lag everywhere in-game, not just Sholazar. As I said before, the hardware on my computer handled things just fine, so the problem is not on my end; and others in my guild have had similar problems as well.

Redemtion has similar problems. Ping is fine but the server seems to need more time then usual. More players -> longer response time.

Remorse seems fine, for me anyways. I only sometimes get disconnected :L But keep up the good work, Young cyp3rsaurus, and to the rest of the staff.

Hey, at least you folks are looking into the problem and addressing it in a realistic manner, unlike so many other servers out there. I'm glad I joined up with you folks last month. ^^

FPS drops has nothing to do with server.

It would be one thing if you had it in one area, but if you're getting it in all, it is most likely you.

Run stress tests on your graphics card and CPU. If anything is overclocked, return it to default clock frequency.

If you don't have issues in other games, then perhaps your installation of WoW is corrupted somehow.

I said this once, and I will say it again: Before this lag issue appeared months ago, WoW ran PERFECTLY on my computer, just as it is now. If my hardware could handle it just fine before, why would it NOT handle it now? Hmmm? My internet is solid, and as far as my machine goes, this is a specifically made GAMING laptop that was advertised with WOTLK, so I THINK it's more than capable of handling the game. What do you say to that?

PS: I recently downloaded the ready-made WoW client from THIS website...

AulunaRaie,
It's quite common to see system performance decrease over extended periods of time. It's also possible that your machine may be overheating because there is something interfering with the cooling fans. To check for overheating you can use a program callled "HWMonitor" which can be found here.

Once you've done that, try updating your drivers and performing system maintenance (Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Check for performance issues).

I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that FPS lag is caused by our servers, because it isn't. You just need to give your machine a little love, that's all! ;)

Nah, I was configuring a new firewall and forgot to modify the ingress ports to allow the login server. My bad. It's all good now.
