Spring Cleaning!

#1 by GregariousJB » Wed Mar 09, 2011 9:39 pm

Starting Monday, March 14th at 11pm server time (Central), the realms will be going down for electronic exfoliation. We're going to clean up an optimize the servers to rejuvenate that new-realm smell.

We'll be taking down 2 realms at a time, starting with Eternal and Remorse, and ending with Redemption and Exile.

Expected downtime will be approximately 4-6 hours PER pair of realms. If the cleaning needs to take longer, we'll bring the realms back up and continue on Wednesday or Thursday night.

Any NON-Donor character that hasn't been logged in for 6 months will be deleted, along with all associated achievements, inventory, items in guild banks, and everything else belonging to that character. If you believe items in your guild banks belong to characters that might be deleted, do this: Pull out every item in question into your own inventory, then put it back in the guild bank. The core will attach your character as the item's owner, and you then have nothing to worry about.

Keep an eye on this news post for information during this process to stay updated on the current status of each realm.

More importantly... will this return the ore veins and herbs back to how they were in January? It is impossible to find ores and herbs right now.

That's a bit of an odd assumption.. I think what he means is that he will be doing hardware stuff and cleaning up unnecessary files on the servers (old characters for one as stated)... maybe blowing them with an air can also ^_^. I don't think they'll be touching any of the realm code... seeing as how he didn't say anything remotely like that.

Yes I knew that. This was my way of reminding Greg we are still not happy with the ore/herb situation. I figured he would monitor his threads closely :D

Four server crashes/resets in 1 hour this is a little much isnt it ?.. I mean we have all gotten used to a crash every hour or every couple hours but this makes it impossible to do anything other than flame stuff in world chat.

You people need to have a little more respect for your server. A lot of servers are going through hard times these days due to DDoS attacks and buggy core updates. There are many things that can cause a crash on a server. I remember at one time on this server, you could type the wrong command in to the chat window and the entire server would crash. The developers are working to make those things disappear, but no matter how hard they work there will still be bugs to fix. These guys do not have Blizzard income like you guys think. They are not Blizzard and do not have the funding to pay for hundreds of extremely qualified programmers. Even with limited resources, these guys manage to provide the best private server I have ever seen. I have been to any and every private server you could name, this is the best one. Any other servers that remotely compare to this one have 2 hour queues. I DARE you to try and learn C++, or take an SQL class. Your attitude towards the work the developers do will change in a heartbeat.

Stop your bitching or go to retail you freeloaders. It's god damn annoying.
