**I was wondering if you could have an updated (4.0.6) WoW version and an "un-updated" version and switch between the two, either by separating them into two different folders, or by activating the updated version (Or simply just the update) and playing which ever one you wanted, depending on the realm. Is there a way to do that, and how might I go about doing it?

Copy your WoW folder and put it in a different place, then run the patchers in the WoW map you want updated. One of them stays 3.3.5a and the one that you ran the patchers on will patch to 4.0.6a.

I would do the whole file copy thing, but it's too risky. I don't feel like reinstalling WoW if something goes wrong.

Awesome, thanks! Does that copied file take up as much space as the original, plus the update? i.e. Will I need another 36gb to support the copied file, or is it just as if there's still only one file that has been updated? ('Cuz, memory is kind of an issue for my Compaq Presario V2000 Laptop...)

The whole reason behind copying the folders is to prevent reinstalling.

You would have two folders - one for WotLK, one for Cata.

Well, copying everything is like making a backup.

So basically when you keep an 3.5.5a, it's like a backup. If you want not to risk much, just copy WoW folder to another place and patch the NEW WoW folder instead of your old one. That way your original stays the same and there would be no problem in reinstalling.
