In a previous post, it was stated that the trinkets were only supposed to be given out to those who completed the previous halloween quest. It was also stated that the trinkets were later added to the VIP list to give people alternative ways to acquire the trinket. The fact that everyone, those willing and unwilling to donate, were
able to get the
same trinkets made it "fair." It doesnt matter if you didnt have the trinkets yet. Given enough time, every single player had the oppurtunity to get them in whatever manner that best suited their interests. Just because some players have them and others dont, doesn't make it unbalanced, since the players who don't have them would've gotten them eventally. The argument that the stats of the trinket are too overpowered when considering those that don't have them is also a bad way of looking at it, since the same can be compared to anyone just starting a raid vs someone who completed endgame content; or someone who just started pvp in deadly vs someone who invested the time and effort to get 2200 3v3/5v5 rated weapons and full wrathful. In both cases, the starters are already at a huge disadvantage even without custom items, but its acceptable because
eventually they would acquire the same level of equipment. If you are "unable to compete" now, that may change later if you put in the same effort. The people who leave, aren't leaving because someone has le OP trinketzors. They are leaving because they didn't want to put in the same effort to get the same OP trinketzorz.
I dont accept any argument that this is for "balance," but I will accept the simple statement Mattmeck made:

These trinkets were never meant to be so easily gotten that everyone had one, and it was required for raids. They were also not meant to be the best trinkets in the game. People doing successful ICC raids should be able to get better.
If that was the original intent for Redemption, then so be it. I think its a silly nerf for those playing Eternal seeing as how you can't do any WoTLK instances, but hey, its not my server.
