While going through the forum thread by thread back to the first post, I saw a few references to Trinity, and Googling for it read up on it a bit. Interesting stuff.

I was wondering (please don't flame, not asking for Cata) if Trinity comes out with a solid, stable 4.x Cata release (it looks like they are hammering on 4.2.2 currently), would Genesis get an upgrade to it? I really do love the speed and maturity and investment of the server as it is (which is why I VIP'd and will continue to each month), but 6-9-12 months from now it could be cool to play around with the new stuff.

There is no such thing as Upgrades in private servers, however there are specific Realms.Eternal -wow has already two existing Cata realms [Ruin - Damnation] even if they aren't Blizz-like due to many bugs and non working stuff. The replica of cata p-servers is only at its beginning. [As you can see even until now WOTLK expansion is still on work.
Honestly when it comes to cata i don't know which script is more stable, it could be trinity or mangos or arcemu etc...

Did not know about the no upgrade issue/limitation. And yeah, now that I think about it, it did take quite awhile for WOTLK p-servers to get going, and then there's the tons and tons of bug squashing and tuning up everything that takes place (and still is).

I guess my best bet (again, this is long, long term for me - like Fall 2012, or this time next year) would be hoping for another blizzlike Geneis-esque server from Eternal if and when the core Cata server code is stable, be that Trinity or whomever else.

The two biggest things that interest me (aside from content - leveling, exploring, quests and spells, etc) are the race/classes opening up, and flying mounts being open across all of Azeroth. Patience ftw.

We only use Trinity core, to my knowledge. The reason why there is no "blizzlike" cata realm is because unlike WOTLK, Cata is ALOT more difficult to have on a private server. It is a completely different game and is way different, making it harder to use on a private server. I wouldn't keep your hopes up too much for a blizzlike cata realm for a LONG time. There would be no way to level up with all the bugs and issues, and the fact that Cata realms are just now becoming playable.

This, if you thought WotLk had much bugged quests, you will go mad at Cataclysm.

Cata realms run on Skyfire Emu. It's almost like a variant of Trinity, but it's a lot less stable. There's a ton of broken things in it.

Even in PVP Cata realms, there are still a ton of bugs. If there was a 1x or 2x retail like Cata server made, leveling would be a pain especially when the majority of quests wouldn't be working.

This is due to the fact that Blizzard changed cata up a bit to protect it from "Copying"
