Post your Guides on how to Play or do things on Eternal-WoW

Protect what you own. [ACCOUNTS]

#1 by AmyC » Tue Nov 29, 2011 3:55 am

We all know that any value that you own (In this case it is account on eternal wow) must be protected / secured. This is a guide that will point you to best secure methods.

Intro:
As we all do, you probably invest a lot of time in leveling your characters, so it would be disappointment if your account would be compromised. I will explore common ways on stealing / hacking your WoW accounts.

Keyloggers

Keyloggers (or keystroke loggers) are covert pieces of software that sit in memory, logging your keystrokes when you enter the game or when you enter the account at web service. Basically it collects all informations about account you have submitted / entered. The keylogger then sends this information out to the bad guys. Many people wrongly believe that keyloggers only look for your password when you enter the game, but more commonly than not, they intercept it when you access the account over web site \ forums.

Keyloggers are often included in the functionality of malware called "Trojans". Trojans are pieces of software that are designed to look like legitimate software but have backdoors for malicious functions.

How did you "pick" keylogger?
    - There are several ways listed below:
    * - You opened (e)mail that contained keylogger and it automatically installed it on your pc.
    * - You opened a website which was in Flash and it automatically gave you keylogger.
    * - You downloaded installation software which was not what you were looking for.

For "How to secure / remove keylogger from my pc?" check the bottom of the post, there I explained all about anti-virus/spam.

The phishing site(s)

Phishing is the process of using deceptive methods to acquire sensitive information, in this case your game account details.

What most of people do to Blizzard (We are not blizzard.) is that they send fake email containing message that says: "Your account security is compromised. Please click link below to login and change your password.", there you come and you open that link which is NOT actually a Blizzards page, but same design / look page which will collect your password information you submit. Thats how people do it.

To secure your self from being a victim of phishing, always check link you are clicking on, when you hover over link, in your left bottom corner your browser (Only good browsers do that) will tell you to what site it points. Do not click on links that point you to website like account-security.eternal-wow.myfreehost.com NO, do not do it.

"The insider"

Imagine it like this:

Usually you guys give password to your friends so they can level your character etc. But suddenly, one day you get in fight, real life problems bla bla. So you are not friends anymore. And there comes your "FRIEND" and he changes password and email of your account. And what you have? You just lost your Level 80 Rogue with Wrathful Gladiators Set *omg panic*.

Okay so you probably got the point, if not, read again  .

*********************
Protecting passwords
*********************

Having a strong password is what makes you being protected. Passwords like "omg123" are usually passwords used by noobs. :naughty: , No, If you are real player, having over 3000 kills on Eternal (PvP), or having a level 255 on Remorse, then your password MUST(should):
    # - Contain more than 8 letters
    # - Contain both letters in uppercase and lowercase
    # - Also contain numbers

Also good thing is to take a paper, and write eternal account and password on it. Then hide it somewhere under your bed or stick it under your table so nobody can find it. *lol*.

Anti (Spam, Virus, etc.)

This is (should be) most important part of this topic.

Having Anti Virus, Spam / Malware removal, is bringing a huge + to your computer.

Some of good Anti Virus softwares are: (Which I personally prefer)
    1. Eset Smart Security
    2. McAfee
    2a. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    3. Kaspersky

They are paid programs, ofc, but you naughty people you always gain these for free :hand:.
Okay, so I bolded the two most important: Eset and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I personally use these two, and you know what? *Never had any problems with my computer.*

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is free to use (They have paid licence for it ofc), but AVG Free Edition is also not bad to use. But, be smart and do not use Microsoft's Anti-virus (It's more like Virus then Anti-Virus).

If you feel much of yourself, then google the free anti-virus softwares and choose your own.

I'll update this guide once I think of something.

Awesome Guide. Hopefully it helps people that don't understand how a computer works that well.

Adding onto the Virus/Anti Virus protection thing, you should add a topic about RogueWare. Although it's not really related to Eternal-WoW accounts, you might as well add it as you have already added Anti Viruses.
